Fellow Parents; Bentley’s Annual Field Day will be held on this Friday, April 16th. We are in need of MANY parent volunteers who are Registered Dividends to run stations for the different grade levels. If you are available to assist and would like to lend a hand, please send an email to Mike Fields (mepoint5@yahoo.com) or call 407-448-0502. This is a PTA and P.E. Department event and we cannot do it without your help. The times for each grade are listed below. You can volunteer for part of the day or the whole day. Kindergarten and 1st grade are from 8:35AM to 10:30AM. 2nd grade and 3rd grade are from 10:35AM to 12:25PM. 4th and 5th grade are from 1:00PM to 2:40PM. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The PTA/Scholastic Book Fair is also in need of Registered Dividends to help with setup beginning on Thursday, April 15th at 8:30AM and then throughout the Book Fair days from Monday, April 19th through Monday, April 26th. This is the continuation of the weekly emails you will be receiving from the PTA that informs you of Bentley’s scheduled events for the week of April 11th (Sunday) - April 18th (Sunday). You are receiving this because you are a current Bentley PTA member for the 2009-2010 school year. We thank you for taking part in your child’s education and showing your support for Bentley Elementary. –Club Information: All students MUST have their Hall Pass to enter the building. –PTA/Scholastic Book Fair Volunteers: If you are interested in volunteering during any of the scheduled dates of the spring Book Fair (Wednesday, April 14th-Tuesday, April 27th), please contact the PTA Hotline (407-871-9984). –Reading Counts Program: Students in grades 1st-5th are collecting computer points. 1st=60 points; 2nd=70 points; 3rd=80 points; 4th=90 points; 5th=100 points. Deadline for accumulating points is April 23rd, 2010. (Kindergarten criteria will be sent by separate flier.) –National Library Week: Sunday, April 11th through Saturday, April 17th. –School Resumes: Monday, April 12th. –PTA Treat Cart: Monday, April 12th @8:45AM. –SAC Work Session: Tuesday, April 13th @5:00PM in the Administrative Conference room. All Bentley parents and staff are invited and encouraged to attend. –PTA Talent Show Auditions/Dress Rehearsal: Wednesday, April 14th during “specials”. This is the exhibitions first appearance in the southeastern United States and will shed light on DaVinci’s contributions to modern science. While DaVinci is widely known for his Renaissance era artwork - he had numerous contributions to the fields of science and technology. From mankind’s first flying machines and scuba gear to musical and time-keeping instruments, DaVinci’s well documented thoughts helped to create some of the world’s greatest inventions. There’s a collection box in the lobby across from the office. –Grandma Jo’s Reading Counts Fund: In memory of Josephine Biondi August 23, 1919-October 4, 2009. Thank you to all who have contributed to Grandma Jo’s Reading Counts Fund. This fund was created in memory of Grandma Jo who volunteered as a dividend for over 25 years in Seminole County Public Schools serving the last nine years at Bentley Elementary. Grandma Jo’s life mission was to help other people, especially children. She wanted every child to be successful and to experience the joy of learning. To keep her mission alive, we created this fund to maintain the Reading Counts Program for our school. The Reading Counts Program encourages children to read for pleasure while building their comprehension skills. The school honors the children who are able to meet their reading goal with a Reading Counts Celebration. However, each year, on January 1st, the school is billed per child and a $200.00 technical support fee. The total is about $2,000.00. We are happy to say that Grandma Jo’s Fund was able to pay this bill for the 2010 school year. Currently, we have a balance of $834.00 which will be applied to the bill for the 2011 year. If you would like to contribute to this fund to ensure the continuation of the Reading Counts Program, please make your checks payable to Bentley’s Grandma Jo’s Reading Counts Fund.
